Re: 302 Chevy
The 302, 327, and 350 all use a 4" bore block. What you need to know first is which block you have. Most 327's have a small journal crank, although a few later ones did come with the large journal. Measure your main bore with bearings. An early SBC, 265, 283, 327(early), 302(early), has a 2.30 main. The later SBC's, 302(late), 305, 307, 327(late), and 350 use a 2.45 main. The lone wolf, the 400, uses a 2.65 main. Once you have that, you need a 3" stroke crank for the block you have. You can get it for small or large journal, so you can build a 302 with a 302, 327 or 350 block, just a different journal size depending on what you have. For rods, it will be a 5.7", also small journal(2") or large(2.1"). Make sure your block is in serviceable shape before you buy parts. If it is not, I would look for a later 2 piece rear seal 350 block to build from(large journal). Large journal parts will be easier to obtain as well as cheaper. Now the bad news. A 3" stroke crank is not a popular item. You will have to start calling crank companies, most can make it but usually for high end racers, not cheap. A 3.25" and up can be had more readily, Competition Products carries plenty of selections. You might get lucky calling the crank companies and get something on the shelf they want to get rid of, just have to make some calls. Good luck.
