Ideas for building a budget Ford 460?
I was looking for some ideas for what I can do to build a Ford 460 without spending too much $$s. I like my fords so please no Ford jokes.
I have an older Mustang with a full frame, 10 pt cage, 9" rear with 456 gears. I had a 351C in it running high 11's (solid lifter cam, 11-1 compression, single plane manifold). The frame is set up to handle a lot more just never had the $s to go faster. My son is building a car so I'm giving him my 351 and I just picked up a 460 and C6 from a friend that has a mild cam and that's about it. I would like to set it up to run mid 11's. I always wanted to run SST as you can tell from my ID but not sure if I can get that fast within my budget.
I don't have an intake, carb, headers or torque convertor, so those are necissities. Probably have to customize the headers and oil pan to fit the car. The car's been sitting for about 12 years so I need new rubber all around and few other minor things. The car weighs about 2400 without the engine.
If there are any Ford racers out there give me some ideas to work with.
Also, how big of a carb will I need. With the Cleveland it took some trial and error to figure out, the Fords like a lot of fuel. When I built the engine the calculations indicated a 650, I tried a 700 and a 750 couldn't get enough fuel. Tried a preditor which it liked on the launch but would drain the bowl halfway down the track. Put an 850 Holley on it and it worked the best. I figure with the 460 I may need to go to a 1050, but I'm sure it depends upon what I do to it.
